To create simple, elegant websites, no programming is required.
Markdown is a simple language created to replace the dreaded HTML required to create web pages. It has a very simplified, common syntax for every day stuff like text, lists, headings links to other pages etc.
HTML is a *publishing* format; Markdown is a *writing* format
This is how you write the pages here: in markdown. There are some extensions to have an even friendlier syntax: Modified Markdown Syntax.
We extended markdown with some common simplifications for wiki pages, like links. To link another page, just put the name of the page in double square brackets like [[My other page]], resulting in a link like this one: My other page++.
You can see that the system already figured out there is no other page yet, so it offers to create it as you click on the link.
With wikis, your website takes shape as you add more links and content. You don't have to pre-define a structure or put too much thinking up-front.
The wiki topics are tagged and there is a powerful tag browsing++ support.
So, we can easily create nice content and grow the website and its structure dynamically. How about interaction and functionality?
You can include one of the pre-existing mods, to add usual functionality like blogs, forums and calendars to your website.
You can also define your own interactivity model and add behaviour.
